“We deal with issues that are really meaty and important for the future of our discipline,” shares Kim Barrett, PhD, AGAF, who joined the governing board in 2022. Throughout her term, AGA has achieved notable successes such as preventing the implementation of United Healthcare’s prior authorization proposal, promoting gender equity, and examining the role of artificial intelligence on gastroenterology. 

You, too, can have a defining impact on our profession by nominating yourself or a visionary colleague for one of our many open positions. And whether you have a little or a lot of time, we’ve got volunteer opportunities just right for you. 

  • AGA Governing Board

    • Applications due: Oct. 1, 2024
    • Share your diverse ideas and perspectives as you work with smart partners to create a positive future for GI. Physician and scientist members are encouraged to serve. The term of service is three years except for Secretary/Treasurer, which is a total of five years.

  • AGA Nominating Committee

    • Applications due: Oct. 1, 2024
    • Influence the future of AGA and our profession by serving on the Nominating Committee. During your term, you’ll help select visionary AGA officers, councillors and the following year’s nominating committee. The term of service is one year.

  • AGA Committee Appointments

    • Applications due: Nov. 1, 2024
    • Get involved in AGA’s vision to end the burden of digestive diseases by nominating yourself or a colleague to serve on an AGA committee. Positions are available to full physicians and scientists; trainees may apply to serve as trainee members on select committees. Chairs serve a four-year term and committee members serve a two-year term with a possibility of a third year based on committee needs.

  • AGA Institute Council

    • Applications due: Nov. 1, 2024
    • Become a leader of one of five AGA Institute Council sections holding nominations as a vice chair or nominating committee member. The AGA Institute Council is responsible for the scientific and educational sessions at the Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) and other educational events throughout the year. Nominees should be full AGA member physicians and scientists (e.g., MD, PhD). Terms of service for vice chairs run for two years (2025-2027) and begin following DDW 2025. Terms for nominating committee members are for one year and run from fall 2026 to winter 2027. Vice chair nominees must reside in Canada, the United States, or Mexico; however, nominating committee members may reside in any country.
