2022 AGA Shark Tank Finalists and Winner

AGA wrapped up its 12th annual AGA Tech Summit in San Francisco last week, an event focused on fostering the development and adoption of GI technology. Attendees came together to discuss current advances in GI innovation and technology that have the potential to improve patient care for the field.

The meeting is hosted each year by the AGA Center for GI Innovation and Technology (CGIT). We’re excited to share some of the meeting highlights below.

2022 Shark Tank competition winner

Six finalists pitched their innovative ideas in GI technology during the AGA Shark Tank competition on Thursday, April 14. The presentations ranged from a GPS system for the GI tract, an on-demand polypectomy suite, an alternative for gastric bypasses, a digital diet program, to a mixed reality system that assists with duodenal obstructions.

While each team offered a creative solution to modern-day GI challenges, only one could be declared the winner. Congratulations to EndoSound — this year’s winner!

EndoSound technology image Shark Tank winner

EndoSound has developed technology that can convert a standard endoscope into a fully functional EUS platform

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is imaging technology that can be used to treat benign or malignant diseases, but the cost has limited its use for many clinical practices. Granted a "breakthrough device designation" by the FDA in 2021, the technology can provide a critical, cost-sensitive solution to existing legacy systems.

Future GI physician innovators

We’re pleased to share the 20 fellows who participated in this year’s AGA Innovation Fellows Program. These fellows joined us for a special session designed to hone their entrepreneurial skills and prepare them for future careers as GI physician innovators.
