Recommendations

1. AGA suggests against routine preprocedure testing for SARS-CoV-2 in patients undergoing upper endoscopy or lower endoscopy (this includes all related GI procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, and flexible sigmoidoscopy) irrespective of the vaccination status of patients.

2. In endoscopy centers that implement a preprocedure testing strategy, AGA suggests using standard nucleic acid testing (laboratory-based NAAT or rapid RT-PCR) rather than a rapid isothermal test or antigen tests irrespective of the vaccination status of patients.
