Protect NIH research funding
AGA advocates for consistent and sustainable funding to support innovative research and treatment development for digestive disease patients.
We need your help to protect GI research.
AGA is actively monitoring changes to the NIH research funding model. Any cuts will delay medical innovation and slow down patient access to lifesaving treatments and cures.
Recent developments
- On May 2, 2025, President Trump released his proposed budget, which calls for 40% cuts to the NIH budget. It also seeks to consolidate institutes, which would eliminate NIDDK. While Congress usually ignores presidential budget proposals, this is not business as usual and AGA is actively meeting with members of Congress and monitoring next steps.
- On March 15, 2025, Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR) funding bill that prevents the Administration from imposing a 15% cap on NIH’s Facilities and Administrative (F&A) cost reimbursement. Although this is good news, NIH was flat funded in the CR and many grants are still being revoked due to executive orders on DEI and other issues.
To help AGA advocate for the GI community, please share your story about how recent changes to the NIH funding model could impact your research.
AGA position: insurers should not dictate how you care for your patients.
