Protect NIH research funding
AGA advocates for consistent and sustainable funding to support innovative research and treatment development for digestive disease patients.
We need your help to protect GI research.
AGA is actively monitoring changes to the NIH research funding model. Any cuts will delay medical innovation and slow down patient access to lifesaving treatments and cures.
Recent developments
- On Feb. 7, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced a new policy capping funding of Facilities and Administrative (F&A) costs at 15%. This indirect cost cap threatens the financial stability of GI researchers, many of whom are on the brink of groundbreaking discoveries in digestive disease treatment.
- On March 15, 2025, Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR) funding bill that prevents the Administration from imposing a 15% cap on NIH’s F&A cost reimbursement. Although this is good news, NIH was flat funded in the CR and many grants are still being revoked due to executive orders on DEI and other issues.
To help AGA advocate for the GI community, please share your story about how recent changes to the NIH funding model could impact your research.
AGA position: insurers should not dictate how you care for your patients.
