As of our most recent meeting, UnitedHealthcare is still moving forward with plans to implement its prior authorization program for most GI endoscopy procedures in June 2023.
Despite this lack of progress with United, we’re not stopping our efforts.
We’re continuing to fight for you and your patients and using our grassroots letter and social media campaigns to hit back.
Today, we’ve sent more than 1,000 letters to United’s CEO!
This is a significant milestone and our largest campaign response to date thanks to hundreds who have taken action, including many in our #AGAGastroSquad and others in the physician community.
We’re not done though – there’s more to come.
What's next?
-
Collaborating beyond GI
This program will directly impact GI but have far-reaching effects and set a dangerous precedent. That’s why we’re working with the broader physician community and patient advocacy partners to urge United to halt this shortsighted policy.
-
Activating the patient community
This program will adversely impact patients, including those with inflammatory bowel disease or who require a surveillance colonoscopy. Our partners at Fight Colorectal Cancer (Fight CRC) have resources for patients to take action. Encourage your patients to send a letter or tweet.
What else can you do?
-
Send a letter through the AGA advocacy action center.
Write United’s CEO if you haven’t already. This customizable letter outlines the impact of their GI endoscopy prior authorization program on gastroenterologists and their patients.
-
Use social media.
Tell United how its new GI prior auth program will affect you and your patients and choose from different social media graphics for Twitter.
-
Spread the word.
Encourage your #AGAgastrosquad to get involved by sending a letter or tweet. (Anyone can send a letter – just create an account first.) We need to work together to make a difference and prevent further delays to GI patient care!
