Martin Brotman and Background

We are saddened to bring you the news that former AGA president Dr. Martin Brotman has passed away.

Martin became our 96th president in 2002. He also served as treasurer in the 1980’s, during which time he ensured the viability of our flagship journal, Gastroenterology, by negotiating our first long-term contract.

Recognizing his business acumen and organizational effectiveness, the AGA Governing Board recruited Martin as the founding chairman of the AGA Research Foundation in 1993. He returned for an encore from 2012-2016, when he led the foundation to a successful campaign to increase our research endowment, ultimately raising over $10 million.

This post can’t do justice to all that Martin has accomplished for AGA, in his leadership roles in business, and not least important, for his patients.

This article from Gastroenterology sums it up: “No matter whom you ask, they will say that Martin is a leader.”

Please join us in remembering Dr. Brotman in the AGA Community.
