Earlier this week, AGA President Maria T. Abreu sent a powerful letter to the GI research community addressing the recent changes to the NIH funding model. The new indirect cost cap and previous funding freezes threaten the financial stability of GI researchers, many of whom are on the brink of groundbreaking discoveries in digestive disease treatment.

In her letter, Dr. Abreu emphasized the importance of community input in policy development. She urged researchers to share stories about how the NIH funding reductions impact their research, and how the loss of funding will ultimately hinder improvements to patient care. Clinicians can support this effort by sharing how research today drives patient care of tomorrow.
