Gastroenterology image challenge:
A 70-year-old man had been experiencing a stuffy feeling in his throat for 6 days before visiting a clinic. Two days after the first symptom, he vomited and could hardly drink water or eat any food. Because of this symptom, he became emaciated with terrible insomnia, although he used a sleep aid drug (Flunitrazepam 2 mg). He said that he preferred soft foods and did not remember eating anything hard or ingesting a foreign body. He has been attending internal medicine for diabetes mellitus and psychiatry for alcoholism and insomnia.
The primary physician performed an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to diagnose etiology of symptom. The endoscopy images showed a blue foreign body stuck in the lower esophagus (Figure A and B).
What is this foreign body?
