Guideline open for public comment: Cancer surveillance in gastric intestinal metaplasia

AGA Institute is seeking public comment on a new guideline for the management of gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM). This guideline focuses on recommendations for the management of patients with GIM detected as part of routine upper endoscopy for reasons including workup of endoscopically identified gastropathy/presumed gastritis, dyspepsia or exclusion of H. pylori. Screening for gastric cancer (either population-wide or in select populations), management of patients with dysplasia of the gastric mucosa, management of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, and diagnostic endoscopy in patients with symptoms are beyond the scope of this current guideline.
