We know prior authorization is a time-consuming burden on physicians that negatively impacts your ability to provide timely access to care for patients.
That’s why we’ve been fighting for prior auth reform that would increase transparency and streamline the process in the Medicare Advantage program
Congress recently reintroduced the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act (H.R. 8702/S. 4532), which would be the crucial first step.
This bill would:
- Establish an electronic prior authorization (ePA) program for MA plans.
- Increase transparency around MA prior authorization requirements and their use.
- Clarify CMS’ authority to establish timeframes for ePA requests.
- Expand beneficiary protections to improve experiences and outcomes.
- Require HHS and other agencies to report to Congress on program integrity efforts.
This bill is similar to legislation that passed unanimously in the House last Congress but did not receive consideration in the Senate.
