AGA and more than 70 other medical and surgical specialties are calling on Senate leaders to include a Medicare payment provision in the House-passed “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”
The current budget reconciliation package that is being considered in the Senate does nothing to improve Medicare physician reimbursement and if passed, millions of Americans would lose health care coverage provided through Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
House leadership has already taken the first step towards long-term reform of the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) by tying MPFS to inflation by establishing a permanent, annual update based on the Medicare Economic Index.
Now, it’s time for the Senate to do the same.
We urge Senate Leader John Thune and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso to reinsert the House-passed provision in the Senate package. This is critical and necessary to stabilize the MPFS and protect access to care for seniors and individuals with disabilities who rely on community-based care.
