Earlier this year, we announced the recipients for our annual recognition awards. In case you missed it, you can still meet all our 2023 award recipients and continue the DDW celebrations with us on Twitter!

Did you know we’ve been highlighting our members’ incredible work since 1941? We’re proud to have a portfolio that recognizes the diverse range of contributions made by our members . Plus, anyone can nominate a colleague or themselves for an AGA Recognition Prize, and all members are eligible!

As an important member of your community, we need your help to identify the unsung heroes and rising stars who deserve to be recognized for their efforts. View the awards accepting nominations below, then start making your list of nominees and submit by Sept. 28, 2023.

Distinguished Service Award in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Created in 2021, one award honors an individual for their commitment to promoting DEI through mentorship, training, clinical practice, research, advocacy, and/or community engagement.

Young Investigator Awards

Two prizes are awarded – one in basic science and one in clinical science – for exceptional research achievements.

Distinguished Clinician Awards

Two prizes are awarded – one to an individual in private practice and the other to an individual in an academic setting – for exemplifying excellence in clinical practice.

 

Distinguished Educator Award

One prize honors an individual as an outstanding educator. Contributions to the training of medical students and residents, fellows, or other trainees and members who have contributed to AGA’s ongoing education programs are considered.

 

Distinguished Mentor Award

One prize honors an individual for their efforts in mentoring others in digestive disease fields. Mentees may range from students and trainees, to fellows, junior faculty or those in practice.

 

Distinguished Achievement Award in Basic Science

One prize honors a senior investigator who has significantly advanced the science and practice of gastroenterology and hepatology through basic research.

 

William Beaumont Prize in Gastroenterology

One prize honors a senior investigator who has significantly advanced the care of patients with digestive diseases through clinical or translational research.

 

Julius Friedenwald Medal

One prizes honors an individual for their lifelong contributions to AGA and GI community. This is the highest honor bestowed upon a member.
