Objective

The AGA Research Foundation’s Pilot Research Awards provide funds to early career investigators in support of their research careers or to established investigators pursuing projects that represent new research directions. The objective of the AGA Pilot Research Award in Digestive Disease Health Disparities is to advance research on health and health care disparities related to digestive diseases. Projects must be related to understanding the causes of or testing interventions intended to eliminate such disparities. They may focus on the pathophysiology, epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis, patient access to or quality of care, treatment or patient outcomes of a digestive disease or disorder associated with a health difference that is closely linked with economic, social or environmental disadvantage.

Awards Available

  • The AGA Pilot Research Award in Health Disparities is open to investigations addressing disparities associated with any digestive disease or disorder. A total of two (2) awards are available.
  • The AGA-Amgen Pilot Research Award in Health Disparities is open to investigations addressing disparities associated with any digestive disease or disorder. One (1) award is available.

Award overlap

At the time of application submission, applicants may not hold awards directly related to the proposed research from another organization (e.g., government agency, foundation, academic institution, professional society). If the applicant is granted the award and notified of a comparable award from another agency prior to the first payment of this award, the recipient must select one of the two awards (i.e., the recipient may not retain both awards).

Selection criteria

The recipient will be selected based on the following criteria: significance, investigator, innovation, approach, environment, evidence of institutional commitment, relevance to AGA’s mission and the overall likelihood that the project will lead to subsequent, more substantial grants.

Review process

A selection committee comprising members of the AGA Research Awards Panel will review the proposals and select the award recipients. Funding will commence in April 2023.
