The AGA Women in GI Luncheon celebrated and inspired more than 150 women GIs from around the world at DDW® 2019. Incoming women’s committee Chair, Sharmila Anandasabapathy, MD, moderated and set the tone for the event in recognizing the notable accomplishments of our AGA women members. Nundhini Thukkani, MD opened with an all-too relatable story of what led her to start the women’s group known as “Ladies of the Gut,” which now has almost 1,000 members on Facebook.

After opening remarks, the panel of phenomenal mid-career women, Laura Raffals, MD, Sarah Blutt, PhD, Sonia Kupfer, MD, Sushama Gundlapalli, MD and Reem Sharaiha, MD, MSc, did an excellent job sharing their paths to promotion.

@AmerGastroAssn Twitter followers chimed in to share some of the panel’s pearls of wisdom like how taking calculated risks, finding a mentor and being present have huge pay-offs.

It was wonderful to see women leaders in the field meeting, reconnecting and supporting one another at this annual luncheon.

Thank you to our panelists, organizers, participants and attendees who continue to make this event a success.
