CMS extends temporary Medicare billing privileges
CMS is allowing physicians and non-physician practitioners to receive temporary Medicare billing privileges and has waived many of the screening requirements to increase the number of providers who can treat Medicare beneficiaries during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

CMS released Frequently Asked Questions on Medicare Provider Enrollment Relief related to COVID-19 including the toll-free hotlines available to provide expedited enrollment and answer questions related to COVID-19 enrollment requirements.

CMS announces quality reporting program relief in response to COVID-19
CMS announced that it is granting exceptions from quality reporting requirements and extensions for clinicians and providers participating in Medicare quality reporting programs. CMS is implementing additional extreme and uncontrollable circumstances policy exceptions and extensions for upcoming measure reporting and data submission deadlines for CMS programs. See the CMS announcement for a complete list of programs including the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) of the Quality Payment Program (QPP) and Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs).

CMS will continue monitoring the developing COVID-19 situation and assess options to bring additional relief to clinicians, facilities, and their staff so they can focus on caring for patients.

CMS extends MIPS data submission deadline to April 30, 2020, at 8 p.m. EDT
CMS announced an extension of the 2019 MIPS data submission deadline to help health care providers focus on their COVID-19 delivery response. MIPS eligible clinicians who do not submit their MIPS data by the April 30 deadline will qualify for the 2019 automatic extreme and uncontrollable circumstances policy and receive a neutral payment adjustment in 2021.

If you have already submitted MIPS data or if you submit MIPS data by April 30, 2020, you will be scored and receive a MIPS payment adjustment based on the data you submit. Many MIPS eligible clinicians have performed very well in the MIPS program in previous years. If you need to revise any data that has already been submitted you can still make changes by logging into by the new deadline.
