The House Appropriations Committee has added AGA-provided language on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) to the fiscal year 2023 Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies funding bill. The new language highlights the prevalence and severity of IBD. More importantly, it reaffirms the Committee’s support for NIH to fund basic, translational and clinical studies on the diagnosis and treatment of IBD.

What’s next: The bill will be sent to the House floor and then to the Senate. We will continue to advocate on behalf of AGA members and IBD patients to keep this language in the final 2023 funding bills.

Achievements like this one highlight the importance of AGA’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill, and the value of lending YOUR voice in advocating for your profession and patient issues, ranging from IBD to prior authorization and step therapy.
