You’re invited to get more involved with AGA! With terms beginning in June 2023, this is your opportunity to use (or enhance) leadership skills, advance your career and make a difference for our field and our patients.

We welcome volunteers who bring diversity along across all dimensions, including (but not limited to) gender, race and ethnicity, geography, sexual identity, practice setting, diverse perspectives and institution type.

Nominate yourself or a colleague to serve! Deadlines are coming up this fall — either Oct. 1 or Nov. 1 — depending on the position. More information on each opportunity is available below.

Deadline: Oct. 1

Nominations are open for the office of: (i) vice president, (ii) basic research councillor, and (iii) practice councillor. Only physician and scientist members are eligible for governing board positions and we are looking for individuals who will bring enthusiasm, a deep commitment and experience to serve.

Members serve for one year and are responsible for selecting future officers and councillors for the AGA/AGA Institute as well as the members who are placed on the ballot for election to the AGA Nominating Committee for the following year. Full and senior members may be considered for the nominating committee. Early career members in practice and research are encouraged to apply.

Deadline: Nov. 1

AGA’s committee structure enables volunteer members to play an important and active role in the association’s decision-making process. Each committee advances strategic priorities that support AGA’s mission. A range of roles are available including committee chairs, members and trainee members.

The council is composed of 13 special interest groups, or sections, within AGA membership. These sections are led by chairs and vice chairs, who oversee all AGA sessions at Digestive Disease Week® (DDW), including creating invited-speaker sessions, and the original research podium and poster presentations.

The following sections are holding nominations for vice chairs and nominating committee members this year:

  • Cellular & Molecular Gastroenterology (CMG)
  • Esophageal, Gastric & Duodenal Disorders (EGD)
  • Gastrointestinal Oncology (GIONC)
  • Neurogastroenterology & Motility (NGM)
  • Pancreatic Disorders (PAN)
  • Pediatric Gastroenterology & Developmental Biology (PGDB)
